My Goals for 2012

Last week I wrote a blog post sharing 5 keys to Making and Keeping your New Year Resolutions. This week it’s time to go public with my own resolutions.  I was inspired to really make progress towards getting physically fit this year by The Show Me Cajun. I don’t know that I’ll be posting my progress as much as he is, but I will be checking in on his blog every week for inspiration and encouragement.  So without further ado, here are my goals for 2012:

Targus Stylus and Pen (Amazon Affiliate Link)

1. Lose 75 Pounds (That’s about 1.5 lbs a week). I’ll be keeping up with my eating habits by tracking all of my calories through the lose it app on my iphone and working out at the gym 3 days a week and of course goal number two won’t hurt either. Of course I’m checking in with my Doctor and already have a check up scheduled for early January.

2. Walk/ Run 500 miles (that’s about 10 miles a week). Just four laps around my neighborhood is a 5k (3.2 miles). I plan on walking the neighborhood at least three times a week and plan to walk on the treadmill at the gym on the days that the weather prohibits me from walking outside. I also plan on using the from the couch to the 5k to get into running shape and be running the 5k each morning by May.

3. Write 200 pages on a book manuscript (that’s about than 4 pages a week.) I’ll be sharing my progress here in a similar fashion to what I did with my goal to read 100 books last year.  Though I won’t share the full manuscript initially, I will share excerpts and let you know where I am in the process.

4. Write 3 blog posts or more a week. My blogging has come in spurts. Some weeks I post every day, other times I’ve gone almost a full month between posts. I hope by setting a minimum number per week that I’ll have a goal and be more faithful.

How about you? What are your goals? Any advice on mine?

I like your driven attitude about these New Year Resolutions. I think you may be a bit aggressive on your exercise goals if you are not currently doing them on a regular basis, but if you start with an aggressive attitude and stick with it long enough, you should be able to develop a good habit.

I have learned the best way to get into shape is by fueling your body with the right ingredients. To get my nutrition, I try my best to eat as natural as I can and then take supplements and fish oil to fill in the gaps. For supplements I take Juice Plus+ and for fish oil I use Innate Choice Liquid fish oil. Juice Plus+ is a whole food supplement for my daily requirement of fruit and vegetables (www.rcjjuiceplus.com) and the fish oil (www.fishoilguru.com) helps to balance out the function of the cells in my body to allow the nutrition to be absorbed. It would take too much to explain it here in a blog post, but if you are serious about trying to loose weight, you should check out these two websites and purchase some of each to ensure you have proper nutrition. I have been loosing weight, gaining muscle and really feel great for the first time in years. Good luck, I will be here to cheer you on as I am also trying to improve my health this year.

  2. What ever you do, do not blog more than 3 X a week! Most followers will not be able to keep up. I would suggest instead to work on 2-3 quality posts! I am personally ready to un-follow some prolific writers because it is just too much for me!!
Good luck on your other goals!

Thanks for the tip. I didn’t even think of that. If I hit a writing streak I can always schedule posts for later.

  4. Did you manage to read 100 books last year??
    Thats commendable!

My reading has become very slow.. I need to pick that up!
That is definitely one resolution for 2012.

I don’t agree with susielindau 😦 A writer writes when he feels like it, not at command. He should write whenever he has something to share with the world. That’s what having a blog is, after all, right?

  6. Thanks xnnena, I was beginning to think I was wrong for blogging every day. I actually love to read a dozen or 2 blogs daily, and this is one that I look forward to reading anytime there is a post. I’m still really new to blogging so I was starting to think I needed to reevaluate. I enjoy blogging daily, because it keeps my readers informed (the few, the proud), and it keeps me motivated to have things to write about.

Getting back to topic, I am so glad I could inspire you to work on your weight loss. This is EXACTLY why I started blogging in the first place. It makes me want to work out that much more and blog so that hopefully I can inspire others. The more people that are inspired by my blog, and the more that are interested in reading my blog, the more incentive I have to reach my goals. Isn’t that the point of creating those resolutions in the first place, to accomplish more than you ordinarily would have?

First time here. Just came across your blog today. I appreciate your writing style and the honesty in your posts. On the blogging conversation that is ensuing here I will have to side with those advocating blogging when you have something to say. I likewise can post for days in a row and suddenly drop to once a week. I hope to return and read some more–looking forward to it.

Great post! I also made New Year’s resolutions to post on my blog once a week and to get back into shape. I followed the link “from couch to 5k” and I think I’m going to give it a shot as well!

Best of luck to you with your goals in this new year! Stay strong and I look forward to reading about your progress.

    God Bless ~

I totally did the couch to 5k thing. It’s great man! Just remember to keep too it. I slacked this past month due to graduate studies crunch time at the end of the semester. But I just may go back through the program again and get back to where I was!! I was just doing that to be healthy and ended up losing 20 pounds through it. It’s great!

    Hi Pastor Jonathan

Love your goals and posts – all the very best for increasing your influence and having an awesome 2012. I’m in the process of writing a book on goal setting and achievement myself – would appreciate you having a look and giving me any feedback… Maybe we could encourage each other in the book writing process!
